I have never thought of this until about... 20m ago (assuming you're reading right after I post). I don't plan on going crazy with power like some of us... Just more respectable power to show the Honda/Subaru/Toyota (scion) fanboys that we can make a lasting impressions from a Kia! So my concern is that I want to get about 50-100 more hp out of this puppy. I know we can hold good power in the engine. But how much can our transmission handle before we need to worry? I have an auto tranny. Now for future views of you know the answer please post the power rating (horses and torque) that the M/T and A/T. For starters I've found that for the M/T is about 250hp. Of course I could be wrong about this. It's something a read. Perhaps they meant a the clutch and not the mechanical of the rest.

As of right now there is a VT that holds 263whp on a a/t trans. Anymore and the trans started slipping due to excessive heat. So you would need a extra cooler to keep it as cool as possible. I know John at Tork is working on one and working on things in the tune to help us a/t guys out. With some bolt ons and a tune I put a lot of Hondas frs/brz guys to shame.

So the only issue that was have as of right now is that our transmission gets too hot to hold power? Ok for those who do have an auto that can keep them cooled off how high could they get our autos up on whp?

I'm assuming someone out there has done this.

Yes for the a/t the Trans gets way to hot so needs a cooler to help.

For the m/t guys I know a few are pushing close to 300whp but not sure if they changed the clutch at all. I know Mr Knee here on the forums is doing a full build with stock Trans just upgraded clutch and he is expecting 350whp or more

Yeah I've seen that with his build. Very very nice. So perhaps I'll try getting a beast of a cooler and see what goes on from there. So I guess as of right now I should get the exhaust and the tune and be done for a little bit

Being that we have the same 6 spd A/T internals as the Optima 2.0T (just different gear ratios) I am sure with a some good cooling we can do 250-270 WHP with no problems.

The more and more I hear how similar we are with that damn optima, it sounds like that 2.0T should have been set into our car! I mean it's been proven in multiple places that EVERYTHING fits together perfectly and as what you said about us sharing basically the same tranny as them proves that even further! Lol

I really wish they put that in this car.

Are there any good transmission coolers are there for our cars? Does anyone know?

You have to buy a kit and make it setup yourself. I have a rail style mounted in the front grill for mine. Cost I think around 70 total for everything

Did you put it in yourself? Is it pretty straight forward process? How much does it help?

Yes I installed myself. It's pretty easy. Took me about a hour to do it with bumper removal and mounting it on my crash bar. It did help pretty good. I do have a thread here about the install with pictures

Lets see if KIA/HYUNDAI brings us a dual clutch 7spd A/T for the FT5-KOUP SX-T ..
If they do I will be trading mine in before I do too much more.

It will be moved when that happens. I just did it because I needed the cooler Temps for track day. So I mounted it there for now

Best parts is the one in the picture is a 6 spd M/T. Kia needs to do something like that for the Koup 'badged limited edition'. The 2014s where limited but not numbered or badged which I think was dumb on their part I think being the first year available.
