Alright guys I am going to post up about the throttle body upgrade that I will be doing hopefully tomorrow as long as it comes early tomorrow (UPS is slow here). There was a thread about it but it got all messed up and isn't clean anymore so here is another thread about it. If you want to contribute to this thread please do so but lets keep it clean.

Ok so the throttle body is from a 2011-2013 (as far as I know the end year) Elantra 1.8 or a 2012-2013 Kia Soul 2.0. These are 60mm throttle bodies and work with our cars. Our stock throttle body is a 57mm opening. The manifold is exactly 60mm that our TB bolts to so the new TB will match it perfectly.

I will be posting pictures of my progress along with the new cold pipe that will be made for it. The cold pipe will be 2.5" when I am done. I know a couple of members here have done it and if they would like to share heir experience with it that would be great!

Here is the thread over at the VT forums for more info on it: 60mm throttle body upgrade

So I got the throttle body today. I just need to get a barbed fitting and drill and tap into the tb so I can connect to the vacuum line to the tb. Also need to clean the tb up. I will probably get to this on sat since tomorrow my wife goes in for surgery.

Anyways here is a pic of it. It was $68 shipped on ebay

Edit: Here is another picture with all the parts I have so far. Just need the barbed fitting

Tomorrow I will be doing the install! I have a few things I need to do and might be able to do a few DIY threads while I am at it

You should use some alumablast on it too while you are working on it

I am going to see about powder coating it if I can. If not then I will paint it along with my valve cover

Alright so here is my first impression about the upgrade. Granted I only have about 15 miles on it since I upgraded it.

So the process went super easy and smooth. I had to remove my intake to get to it all because with the 6th intake threes just no room to get under it with my big hands lol. Once that was off all I had to do was take off the stock rubber cold pipe and the evap line on top of the throttle body and then the electrical plug and if you haven't done the coolant bypass you need to take the lines off the TB then unbolt the TB and pull it out. So the install was easy. I tapped into the pcv line for the EVAP line to hook to until I have more time to install the barb fitting on the TB. The TB is and exact match to the port on the manifold. The cold pipe I made is 2.5" and as you can tell has little room for a flange for a BOV to be added but can be done if I wanted. I had to cut the couplers as they were to long and I had to cut the side for the TB at a angle so it would angle the coupler towards the intercooler inlet.

Once all installed I did reset the ECU and then started the car and let it warm up and idle for about 10min to it could get used to the new upgrade and make sure everything was to temp. First thing I noticed was idle was a bit calmer then normal and when I just hit the gas really quick you can hear the suction from the TB before the turbo spools. Then took the car out for a drive and noticed right away throttle response was way more crisp and when I went WOT in 2nd the mid range and upper range pulled harder then before. I would say that the upgrade with the tune is the way to go. I am sure it will help with even a stock tune but a tune brings out the upgrade even more.

I will continue to update as I get more miles on it and the car adjusts more.

curious... did you try looking for a new silicone hose to bridge the gap like oem just larger in diameter?

I had to cut the hose coming from the tb to fit so the one from the i.c would fit. I don't mind the pipe showing in the middle. I could have left a little more on the one from the tb.

i was leaning more towards the idea of only having to use 2 t-bolts instead of the 4.

by chance, did you get measurements of the outside of the new TB and the outlet of the intercooler so i can try and search for a silicone hose incase i do this.

So I have some time on this and when I went to get my daughter from choir practice I noticed that the car doesn't sound like it has a rough idle anymore. I did notice a big improvement on acceleration on how smooth it is and how it feels like it doesn't take much effort for it to get going. I do like how the turbo has more of a whistle to it now when only pushing around 1-5psi but when under WOT it sounds like it is able to stuff more air easier into the motor.

Just normal driving around town is way better and my mpg went up by 2.

So went up and did a canyon drive with my car club tonight. She did great going up and coming back. I was able to stay in a higher gear longer and not have to downshift as much. The throttle response is amazing when I needed it. Puls so much harder up the canyon then before. I really thing this would be a good upgrade to do for anyone trying to get the most out of their car.
