TCM problem

So I was on my way to our shop today to head out of town for work and my car just lost all power and my dash lights all came on. I pulled into a parking lot and turned off my car and then turned it back on.

It showed up with a check engine light and told me there was a code for the TCM. I was in a hurry and had no time to check the code.

I noticed when I got back last week that I had no traction control when I turned the car on. Had to restart the car to get it back.

I'll need to take it in sometime after I'm back for good but in the mean time... any ideas buddies?

Would need to know the code. I see a LOT of trans temp sensor failures.

Ok so I was able to pull the codes off of the torque app.

U0100- Lost comm with ECM/PCM "A"
U0101- Lost comm with tcm

When I got back into town last night and turned on my car, the check engine light was off but I definitely noticed some jerkiness to the car under moderate throttle for the first couple minutes. I opened up the throttle too once it warmed up and everything seems to be ok. I'm thinking something is loose.
Ok it's throwing the codes again today and being really un predictable. The codes seem very general (above post).

The traction control light also comes on before all of this happens.
What has been modified on the car just the stuff in your signature? I would take it into the dealer or if that isnt an option pop the connectors off the ecu and make sure there is no pushed out pins or anything. The ecu and tcm are all wrapped in into one package so it sounds like a wiring or can communication issue

Would you mind letting me know where these are so I can do a visual inspection of them and their wiring to make sure nothing is loose or bent? Thanks
I think he is saying take the connectors off the ECU behind the battery and check all pins and make sure the connectors are tight

OK so it is behind the battery then. I will be doing this today. I hope it's just our shit roads rattled a connection loose.

Dealer won't be an option for another couple weeks. Would the work be covered under warranty if they decided "rough driving" or "road conditions" caused whatever problem I am having?
It would be covered period. If they try to say from rough roads they have some issues lol

Can't get in until next friday. I guess ill be playing some Russian roulette this weekend driving a car that just disconnects with its computers randomly.
Maybe a dirty ground ?
Maybe a dirty ground ?

There has to be something loose. The problem is intermittent. The engine light turned itself off again and it's driving like normal. I tried to go over some bumps and dips to see if jarring would cause it but nothing happened.

Very interested to see what the tech finds next week.
Ok so R2 is at the dealership for the codes. Took it in last friday.

I called yesterday for and update and the guy tried to tell me that the only codes being thrown were for something else being wired into my car that wasn't supposed to be and that there was nothing wrong with it. He told me that there would be a diagnostic charge and that this mystery other equipment wasn't covered under warranty... I about lost my shit on this guy.

I told him the only thing wired in was a sub that was put in under warranty from a professional shop and that they need to focus on why my car with 4500 miles on it is losing connection to its computers. He is passing it up the chain I guess. What is the use of having these service liasons if they have no clue what is actually getting done to your car?

I have the same issue with mine but it's for a airbag light! They won't warranty it. They are telling me that the alarm that was put in before I bought the car is causing these issues. I told them their tech is a moron because he was saying I installed it when it was put in before I got it. Well they won't touch it and said I have to go back to the dealer that I bought the car from and make them fix it because it wasn't something they put in. I have never heard of that before.

If it is the alarm then these cars are super sensitive to adding things to it. I have 2 add a fuse under the dash to have my amp turn on and off and one for my boost gauge and they aren't causing any issues.

There is no way the professional shop that did my amp and sub wired it into some main wiring harness wire or anything. There should be a remote wire in the dash or a speaker wire and you won't ever convince me that it would cause a total loss of connection between the motor and BOTH of its computers you stupid dealership. Still heated about this sorry.

Very understandable bro no worries. I would be pissed to!

I HIGHLY doubt it's causing it to lose connection. That's just b.s and they want to blame it on something. They at first told me that my tune is causing the airbag light to go on and when I talked to John at Tork he said there is no way the tune would cause it. So I am waiting to get my stock ECU back from him so I can take it back in and if they say it's the tune I am going to lose it because it will have the stock ECU!

I would call KIA to have them get involved. I am going to do it the next time I take my car in so it gets fixed. KIA needs to know that their dealerships are complete morons. Well at least the techs they higher

If they try to pawn it back off on me again I am getting Kia involved for sure. If they won't help BBB and so on. I just want them to take the time and find the loose ground or whatever is causing the miss connection and stop automatically trying to give you the run around.

That's exactly what I am going to do this time when I take my car back in. Last time they said it was throwing 23 codes for the airbag and kept blaming the alarm. Stupid they won't fix it even though it was a KIA dealer that put it in!

Yes it is very apparent that kia has some issues with diagnosing things out of the norm. I have a local guy that they blamed the tune for setting the tpms light also.
