From time to time we may need/be required to drive a rental car... I am so lucky to need a rental car. This Toyota corolla really puts my forte to shame............... NOTTTT
I'm pretty sure my 2000 civic had more power than this 2015 corolla... As a matter of a fact the Toyota sits in the driveway and I'm driving my civic

I hear you!! I've been driving the lowest spec Kia Cerato (1.8 ltr, I think) for 8 weeks now while my engine is replaced under warranty and it is driving me insane. The thing is beyond gutless and it's got absolutely no street cred whatsoever. I asked the Kia dealer to please hurry up with my car because driving the Cerato is turning me old before my time! On a positive note, there is every chance my car will be ready this week - I can't wait!!

This car seriously is scary... I hit the gas... And stand still!
Got my baby back this morning, and perfect timing because my broken K badges arrived this morning also!! :)

Bit nervous about how she's going to go with the new engine (it's kind of tarnished the feelings about the car), and whether my loss of power problem that lead to her detonating will possibly return...... (I suspect not because no one else seems to be having any such problems.)

Glad you got it back. If you have the torque app you should monitor the fuel pressure. I have been reading on the VT forum that they have had issues with the fuel supply line getting kinked. Not sure if we are going to have the same problem though. You may also want to check your LPFP (low pressure fuel pump) to see if there is any debris in the filer

Thanks Forte5 :). Max (I think) mentioned the kinked fuel line in another post and I asked the dealer to consider that when installing the new engine - they told me it wasn't an issue for the Kia engine. I can only trust that they aren't feeding me BS. I don't have the torque app, but might have to look into getting it......

You need an android device, seeing how you have a iPhone, I'm not sure if you have one. I thought iPhone might have a different app but it doesn't work with Bluetooth or something? But anyways, any android phone or tablet should work, along with a obd2 Bluetooth dongle from eBay.

What Rick said is correct, The bluetooth dangle does not work with iOS (I tried). A decent Android tablet can be had for less than $200. I have a Nexus 7 (2012) that I use for the torque app and it works great for this purpose.

Yeah, iOS is pretty locked down on the Bluetooth front, which is a real shame, as I've got an iPhone 3GS sitting here that'd make a perfect little display unit. I *could* go for a wifi dongle, but they are more expensive than the cheap BT one's you can get. I've got an Android tablet lying around, and could hook that up if I wanted.

For iOS there are a couple of apps, not sure how well they match up to the Torque app though,I didn't spend that much time looking at them to be honest. Really wish Torque would go iOS as well, if I could code I'd possibly offer to have a delve into it, but alas, just a QA not a coder.

You monitor all vitals of the car ie boost, iat, oil temp, fuel preasure, ect.. it will also clear codes that pop up as a check engine light

Considering all you really need it for is to be a monitor, you can get away with a cheap tablet/phone ($100 and less) because you don't need ridiculous resolution or CPU, etc. It's the best money you'll spend for your car.

Think of it this way: you can either pay hundreds of dollars for all kinds of gauges, then pay for an OBD2 reset tool, then pay for a logging tool... or you can spend $100 or so on a tablet and Torque. Choice seems pretty obvious to me.

Makes more sense to go that way cost wise. Little off topic but one thing I'm surprised about with the turbo forte is there is no boost gage. Anyone have info on why that is? Also does anybody know how much boost these cars put out?

My first thought why it has no boost gauge is because it is not actually a performance automobile. Stock max boost is 18lb

I have to disagree. It is clearly a competitor in the hot hatchback category. Plus 201hp out of a 1.6l sounds like performance to me.

It may not be the fastest performance hatch but I'll bet it's the fastest 1.6l out there.

Hot hatches are the sti, st, gti. Maybe a few others. Yes I do think we have a somewhat hot hatch but Kia wanted to just make it a fun car to drive. If they wanted to be apart of the big boys that 2.0t should have been dropped in and given us 300hp. Our 1.6 is a quick little motor for sure I'm not saying it isn't but it's a tad shy of the other hatches.

I have had people ask what size motor is in it and they are shocked when they find out. When people hear 1.6 they don't expect it to be quick

The Fiesta ST is probably ever so slightly faster and it too has a 1.6.

Our cars are a jack of all trades. It's dare I say the most refined for our class, one of the faster for our class, affordable and for a Kia it's pretty fun. However to really compete with the true Hot Hatches like the GTI/ST/STI's of the world, you need to modify. A tune and and a rear torsion bar will push you into that category in my opinion so it's not like you need a ton.

The Ecoboost and Gamma Turbos though are in my opinion the best 1.6's on the market for sure.

You really don't want to go there lol the 2014 Ford Fiesta st had a 1.6L turbo with the same HP and 12 lb-ft of torque more and is 400lb lighter and is in the low 14s in the 1/4 mile with just wheels and tires and is still not considered a performance or hot hatch. So no we are not the fastest 1.6L turbo out there. We are more in line with the Mini and Fiat than the Focus st or GTI or even the Cobalt SS, a few bolt on modds with a handheld tuner and they are over the 300 hp mark easy. For us to even come close to that someone would spend $8-10K+ and would no longer have a DD. The 5 might be a competitor against a Civic SI but we are not even close to the actual "hot hatch" category that stock are mid to low 14s and low 13s stock (Golf R 13.2 sec @ 106 mph stock).

Hot Hatch no, fun to drive yes. The only thing I haven't modded is the engine internals or upgraded the turbo and we still don't come close to a stock WRX, stock GTI. We are nothing more than a standard sport compact, hell from a roll we won't even touch a 2.0T Optima lol
