I figured out mine today (hopefully). Did the exact same thing. My plugs were .030 and I gapped them to .028 and I don't notice it anymore. I am thinking crappy plugs and not gapped right. Weird thing is that specs say between .028-.031

I will know for sure tomorrow when I start it in the morning

please update your findings so I can make a case with engineering for them to look into this situation. We had plug problems with the optima. def don't want to see that again

I just started my car and it's warming up right now. There still is a slight miss fire but not as bad as before when gapped to .030. I think I am going to order new plugs and see if that helps.

Not sure if this is a similar issue. .... hopefully you guys get it figured out. .... I had problems with plugs on my old car. They would be toast after 5-10000 km. Doesn't matter if they were iridium or platinum. They didn't look very bad but you put new ones in and the car ran like new again.

Faulty denzo plugs.
The porcelean was falling out of the plug and either blowing The motor Or getting sucked up into the turbo ans destruction

I hope it's not what is going on with that guy on the veloster forums.

The plugs we have are the ngk. I pulled them last night and gapped them and they were black like it is running rich. Granted I am tuned now I am not sure if that has to do with the plugs being black or not

Never had direct injection before so new to it lol

The veloster guy is having no boost at all going on I think. I just glanced really quick at it lol.
No boost at all??
With no check engine light? If so that's quite odd
My first guess. Since there is a simular issue with optima turbo. No boost complaint. In that case I would look at adjusting the adaptation values for the electronic waste gate
But as I said that was a optima issue
This 1.6L has been out for quite some time. Comes in the should/Rio platforms. There have been no known engine issue. Its been a pretty solid build. But now being a boosted motor option you never know what could happen. So far so good tho.
I have been looking to news with my wastegste through the GDS
I need to look up the voltage values and see where mines sits. Usualy if u take it to the lowest value threshold you get some better boost quality

We had a optima with no boost and the waste gate was rusting shut. Lubed it as per tech line came back few weeks later ended up replace the whole turbo assemble

I am hoping if I change the plugs on my car I won't get the missfire that is going on.

When I got off work today I started the car and listened closely. I still have the missfire when warming up. I am also thinking I have it when driving also. Would new plugs cure this? If so I will get some ASAP

That seems backwards to me. The wastegate is supposed to bypass exhaust gases from entering the turbine so boost can be controlled. If you have a gate that is stuck closed, ALL exhaust gases hit the turbine, and the turbo will overboost.
If that optima had no boost I would think the gate was stuck open.
