Okay so I was checking out the new 2015 optima sx tgdi and they actually are pretty much identical engine wise to ours. I asked around and confirmed the motor mounts are the same, also confirmed it would fit to our tranny. The new optima is a 2.0 turbo gdi that makes 274hp stock that's over 70hp more than the forte. Only thing needed would be an optima ecu and wire harness. Which yeah would be expensive but totally worth it in my book, comparing getting the 1.6 up another 75hp. What do you guys think?

I think that is what the Forte should of came with..... all the older and still some current tuner cars have larger 2.0 to 2.5 boosted engine's. But I think ever since ford started their ecoboost line (smaller boosted engines) everyone followed them. They are starting to put bigger engines now at least but before the Explorer just had the 2.0 eco boost. Now they have the 3.5. Also chevy followed, they had the cobalt now they have the cruze with what a 1.4 or something? And the srt4 with the 2.4l and now the dart has a 1.4 with 184hp I think?
At the end of the day, I am happy with the Forte, I do wish it had more power but it was a pretty cheap car and I bought it to have a nice reliable fun daily driver that I can do some little mods overtime. Personally I wouldn't do a swap but if it could be done I'm sure some will do it.

Another thing that we could look at too, how close are the motors to being the same? Similar head? Can turbos be swapped, assuming the optima has a bigger turbo.

Tried using an optima head and got a misfire dtc they look the same but something is slightly different.. I am confident the ecu can be tweaked to use it but I'm definitely not at that level yet. As far as turbo I'm not sure what the difference is yet if any. Whenever one is pulled at the shop I'll post the dimensions.

I heard the block is dimensionally different in both height, width, and depth on the outside but not much from what i remember.

How did you confirm the motor mounts are the same? did you cross-reference part numbers? That's where I would have started.

Also, did I understand you right and you said you tried an Optima head? Meaning, you successfully bolted it to the 1.6T engine block?

the fact that the forte turbo is a bit under 10k then the optima.
That's being said stock the forte is comparable to the optima (I have owned two)
But in the end the optima is quicker up top or from a roll
Secondly the fact that with a little bit of work on the forte
I.e full bolt ons and tune roughly 2.5k $
(Judging off my current build)
You have a car that is faster than the optima and a shit ton more fun to drive for 8k less

I would love to see this set up done and proven.. But until the price is in the same realm as a B18C swap.. its just not cost effective.. for 70hp.. what I would love to see is turbo and cam shaft upgrade.. real hot rod stuff.. But can a brother see and Cat Back exhaust mass produced for or rides form a main stream manufacturer..

Don't. You will hit a wall after a wall.

Better spend money on tune, full bolts on, even get sleeves, forged shafts, valves, pistons, bigger turbo, and all will work, as opposed to 2.0 where not only mating the tranny will be a problem, but mounting all the hardware may become an issue.
Overall it will be cheaper and much more flexible.

I think the fact that Hyundai/Kia now offer the 2.0t in some of the previous 1.6t only models kind of takes away any real push for most people to do a swap.

But, if you want to do it then that would be very cool! Not worth it IMO but to each his own. If you've got the drive and resources then do it. I just don't have any knowledge to offer.

The way I look at it is if you are going to spend the money to push the 1.6 to 300WHP why not spend a little more and build the 2.0 to easily have 350WHP and be more reliable.

Its been along time
The fact is that I own a 1.6 forte
Not the turbo version
So its either to get a half cut forte 1.6 T , which would be a direct swap
Or get a optima 2.0t half cut and have a bigger /more powerfull engine
