So I'm not sure what the heck happened, but I have a huge flipping. Hole in the plastic in front of the drivers side wiper.

Now, we had a ton of freezing rain last night, so I was chipping the ice off this morning, but I don't remember seeing / hearing the plastic crack this morning. I just noticed it when I got back from town and was like, WTF.

I was thinking of putting some tape over the hole until I can get to the dealer, but I am just assuming this is going to be expensive.

I will try to put some pics up later but I'm on my phone now.

Any ideas what to do?

Wow thats a pretty nasty hole in the cowl, I tried a quick google search for you but I can't find it listed for the 2014's and up.

Try the dealer, on the first gen models the cowl goes for $100:

You might get it replaced under warranty too... although I had a 99 Ram where the dash would crack in the sunlight... Dodge never recognized it, however your car is brand new.

So I went in today to see what I could see... The service manager was out, so I can't confirm if it will be covered by warranty or not, BUT, the part costs $251 CAD to fix.... So I am hoping its under warranty.. lol

Its in a place where they can't argue of was caused by a stone chip.

I would say that you turned the defrost on and heard a crack... Then you noticed that. Blame it on the cheap material, just play dumb and act like its covered under warranty.

I have no Idea where the plastic fell off to, BUT, i got it fixed today and here is the outcome....

I went in and they said that I owed 434$, so I was like, can I talk to the service manager just to see what happened? So they sent me in to see him.

He basically said that there was a hole, and there were some 'scratches' on the plastic which would indicate that I was scraping, or that ice broke it. I had to pay to replace the part, because it wasnt covered under warranty.

I told him that if Kia Canada was selling cars in Canada, especially where it gets cold and the plastic is too brittle to be able to stand up to an ice storm, would that not merit it being defective cheap plastic? I mean if I have to replace this every time its cold and I am driving in an ice storm, paying 400$ every time is going to get old fast.

So he agreed, and said he would sell me the part at cost, and go half on the labour. He said that there wasn't much he could do, but if it does happen again, he will show Kia Canada both pieces and just then we will try to get it warranted through hthem and the damages refunded.

So my bill ended up being $252, which I am pretty happy paying. I mean, I love the car so it was going to get fixed one way or another, whether it was $1000 or $252... But I am glad that they basically recognized the situation, and cut me some slack.

And they threw in my paint pen for free, to fix the rock chip on my hood :)

So all in all, I hope it NEVER happens again, and that it was just bad plastic.

Glad you got it fixed and that you're happy with the outcome. Still sucks and makes me nervous... -30 last Saturday and yesterday we had a record snowfall of 51 cm in Ottawa.

Wasn't driving the Forte yesterday though haha.

Hahahha, fair enough!

Yeah, the shop charges 90$ per hour on labour, so i am glad they cut me some slack there.

I certainly hope it never happens again and that it was just a bad batch of plastic or something
