Can you describe the sound and the circumstances when you heard it a little better?

Not saying this is exactly what you are hearing but the high pressure pump is loud normally and even louder with the engine cover off. GDIs whether it is Kia, VW or Ford along with most others are quite noisy. Some manufacturers just sound deaden the car a little better to muffle the noise.
It's sounds right there under the valves cover!! I gonna try to take a video tomorrow
UNder the valve cover or under the engine cover? The HPFP is under the engine cover which is what Play was talking about. Other noise can be injectors, timing chain, cold motor looseness etc etc. Check to see if you can feel where the noise is coming from. I use a stethescope (like 4 bucks at harbor freight) with a metal rod end or you can use a screwdriver or wrench.
Also remember the HPFP is attached to the valve cover so the loud clicking noise it makes will echo through the whole cover. Take your hand and grab the HPFP and squeeze and see if the noise changes. This will also let you feel the click from the pump and hear it at the same time. Mine got quieter after I started using 5w40 T6 oil, don't want to turn this into a oil discussion but there are not many oils off the shelf that are rated (ACEA A5) for this engine (and yes I know the rating has nothing to do with visc). The synthetic that my dealer sells does have the rating but is the same price as running Amsoil.
Thanks guys, I gonna check Sunday if im off.
Not to hijack the thread for oil questions, but you don't have any problems with running 5w40?
+1 for pump noise.

5w40 is recommended for 55degrees and above ambient temperature

Not a problem and it runs smoother and sounds quieter but at the same time there is going to be a ever so slight loss to performance with the heavier weight oil. Check the owners manual, it pretty much says anything other than driving like grandma is severe duty with 3000 mile change intervals and recommended oil to use.

I'll have to look into it. I only run full synthetic in my cars so no conventional will ever be put in there. I appreciate your input. Just wanted to make sure you didn't have problems with excessive wear and tear.
