Kia Warranty Issue?

Hi there, found this site while search g for an issue I'm experiencing with my 2019 Kia Forte S.

I recently used Lucas Oil GDI Deep Clean following instructions to the T. Right after it started having issues and engine lights. Went to advanced auto parts for obd2 check.. MAP sensor fault, bank 1 lean, bank 1 rich. The forward collision avoidance warning is also lighting up.

I took it to my local kia dealer service center on recommendation from Advanced auto parts because it should be a warranty repair. Kia service ce yer is claiming there is a 'oil based substance' in the air box or.in the honeycomb area of the maf sensor so they say it's non warranty fix, and say that the map sensor is fine or 'pending' because their "kia specialized obd2 readers can't tell whether it's the maf or the map sensor."

Has anyone else experienced this and know of there's an easy fix?

From what you are saying you sprayed the oily cleaner into the intake, right?

It seems like you did not exactly follow the instructions. See the part about bypassing the MAF sensor...

I am not certain if your car has MAP or MAF, but since they said honeycomb it could be MAF, although MAP could be there as well...

Anyway, either one can be cleaned. Or replaced.
MAF is quite expensive so I would rather clean it. Remove the intake part with MAF on it and nicely, gently wash it using correct fluid. Let it dry before using it.
MAP - remove, spray with cleaner, blow the excess out of it and put it back in. MAP is much more robust.

Finally, why did you do that in the first place? Was it needed?
If the car is under warranty, why not ask KIA?

I looked up the Lucas Deep Clean GDI cleaner we used it's not oil based. Cleaning chemicals and propane...

Also the dealership blaming my aftermarket K&N filter is ridiculous. I have the sticker that came with it on the air box that states use of the filter will not void warranties...

Does the Forte not have both the MAF and MAP sensors?

Good news is we did try pulling out the MAF and cleaning it, and that worked like a charm. Guess we know for next time...

This could be your source of oil, especially if it was oiled too much.
I know, I know - the warranty should not be voided, but you can fight KIA and KN.
Just next time, swap the filter for OEM. It takes less time than fight.

Might. I have seen this.
I had KIA with MAFs and then with MAPs. But I know sometimes they use both of them.
MAPs are inside the intake manifold and they are OK with oil on them... of course not completely flooded.

Problem solved... for now :D

Doubt it. K&N Filter had been in there for 2.5 yrs and never an issue, never been serviced.. It actually needs to be serviced soon
