Hi all!

I have been creeping these forums for a few months, ever since I started looking into the Kia Forte.

I currently drive a 2001 Saturn SC1, and I have had it for 6 years. Its been a good car but its almost time to replace it :).

About 4 months ago I started compiling a list of cars I would like to buy new/ could live with for a few years and not hate myself for getting one. Of course, being a substitute teacher, guaranteed work is a luxury, so I was looking at keeping my monthly payments as low as possible.

My list basically went :

Chevrolet Sonic RS
Hyundai Accent
Kia Rio
Ford Fiesta
Jeep Wrangler

Fast forward two months and I convinced my father to come test drive vehicles with me. No one carries Sonic RS's because, I guess the dealers don't believe that cool people buy chevs ;) (kidding, 24k for a small car isn't exactly going to sell quickly) so we ended up with an LS model..... I hated the Sonic from that day forward. Underpowered and felt like I was sitting in a church pew.

The accent was, well, like my saturn. Something to go from A to B. Not wild about it

I grew up in a GM family, so the ford was a hard one to drive. But, it was enjoyable. An ST would be the best, but it wasnt too bad.

And the wrangler... GOD LOVE the wrangler. I drove two, one was stock (2dr) and one was MODIFIED (3" lift, 35" tires, KC lights, EVERYTHING, 2dr) and I was just in love. What I wasn't in love with was the bi-weekly payments... and GAS... 20MPG IF YOU'RE LUCKY, and 350$ bi-weekly.... Doable on a sub budget if I didn't have to do anything else with my money!

So lastly, we go to Kia. I have always scoffed at Kia, just because their design were so gross and bleh. Well, I walked in to test a rio, and the salesman said, "You don't want that, you want a Forte." At first I was like, yeah sure, walk in for the cheap car, get talked into a more expensive car, but BOY was I wrong. His intentions might have been to make me spend more, but I am in LOVE with the Kia Forte.

I have test drive the Sedan, and the Hatchback, and plan on going to test drive a SX Koup Monday. I am pretty sure I am sold on the 5 door though.

Well, that was my car journey! I plan to buy between February and June 2016... The dealer said that I could go in, in February and order the car that I want, and by the time I turn 25 (lower insurance FTW!) in June, it will be here from Korea. That seems like the best plan IMO right now.

I guess I should also say what I teach... Majored in history, minored in French. I have taught from primary to 12 all around central NS. Its been a good time but hard to get a job!!

Thanks! And I look forward to talking to everyone!! AND OWNING A KIA!

PS. I already have a mod list ready ;)

Welcome to the site!

No matter which Forte trim you get, you will love it. Kia has done an exceptional job in designing their new cars. Just make sure you get a turbo one. They are no fun without it.

I had a 2010 Forte 1.8L Sedan, and while I was impressed with the build quality of that car, my 2014 blows that out of the water.

I second what 6th Element says - you gotta get the turbo :). Unfortunately I've had a few issues with my Kia Koup turbo and I got the point where I thought about trading it (sacrilege, I know), but every other car I tested (in the price range) as a possible alternative couldn't match up to my Koup's turbo power. Of course, it's not a 300kW beast (and never will be, at least not without doing the sort of mods that Knee has described on this Forum), but it's got more than enough poke for a little 'ole 1.6 litre and easily deals to most other cars in its class and also a few supposedly above its class. So, I'm sticking with my Koup because, as 6th says, it's great fun to drive. And once I get some coin together and get a few mods going on it's going to be even better......

Enjoy your new Kia!

I've said it before and I'll say it again. If you go with a turbo forte koup or F5 you will notice heads turning and confused looks because you just don't see us everywhere like that fiesta. If you go with an F5 sx especially, you will see what I'm talking about.

Good luck with your decision and as 6th and Johno said; be sure you go with a 1.6t!

I am like 99% sure I will be going with a F5 SX... The 1 % chance is that I win the lotto and buy a Jeep... and F5 SX :p

I just went on a lil road trip from Truro to Halifax (an hour each way) and was car-watching the whole time............

I didn't even see ONE Kia car (saw sportages and stuff) let alone a Hatch or Koup!!

The more I think about it, the more excited I get

I am excited for you bro! I have only ever loved my 92 240sx fastback more than this car and that is because it was left to me by my dad.

People on here will agree that these cars are just plain fun to drive and sweet to look at! For such a young model of car, we have a pretty dedicated group of people here so a good support network for your car is a guarantee! The jeep forum will be saturated with douches lol no offense to anyone with a Jeep but you know what I mean.

Just food for thought if you were on the fence at all.

I can tell you my honest opinion i have owned a few cars now and this 2015 forte 5 sx is the most bang for the buck that i have had. The cars i have had have been a mazdaspeed 3, SRT 4, and the Focus st don't get me wrong the focus st is a great car but you get alot more for what you pay buying the forte 5. I really like this car reason number 1 is because you won't see as many out in the streets as you will the cars that i just mentioned i mean i just moved to fl and within a 15 mile radius there are about 8 focus st's. If you want a car people will ask you about the forte 5 sx is it man i have only had a few days and already people have asked me what type of kia is it cause they have never seen one like that. Sure the st's have more power out the gate but im sorry but the wow factor to me goes to the forte 5 and with a few mods you get just the right amount of power u need and for being a 1.6 turbo 201hp is really good in my book to start from. Plus you have company's like 6th Element Engineering and Tork's making some really nice products for these car's and soon we will also have a handheld tuner out were you can tune on the fly. So if your thinking about getting one go for it man you won't regret it at all.
