I have installed HID bulbs in headlight and fog lamps. I still can barely see. Is it me or are our lights really dull... I had hoped the HIDs would help

Really depends on the HID kit you purchased and the bulbs you chose. I went with 35 watt 5500s and can see perfect but it is also a Mirimoto Elite with for canbus systems which are $150 on Ebay.

What kit did you get?
Authored hid 6000k with the canbus conversion. 35 watt

Where did you get it? I googled it but couldn't find it
Well for 17.95 I guess if they illuminate at all I would be happy. Seriously they may work but that doesn't mean the drivers are producing enough arc inside the bulb to get full brightness or the bulb itself is of good quality. HIDs should be 3-4 times brighter than standard halogen. Another thing to check is the adjustment in height you should have a max of 2" of drop at 25 ft (set mine to 1" @ 25'). We also have halogen projectors which is the opposite of a true HID projector but still works fine.
Yeah I paid $40.... Not too happy about that... But don't our lights auto aim?
I'm a little confused:confused: at this thread. Don't all SX's come with HID's from the factory? My Forte definitely has factory HID's.

Please disregard this post. Just went to the Kia website and realized you have to get the technology package to get factory HID's.

And to the guys that are buying these cheap kits off of Ebay, Please be careful. I've seen these cheap ballasts actually catch fire and ruin half of a nice car because someone wanted to save $100. That's if you can get them to last longer than 3 months. Buy some quality Philips ballasts(used by most OEM's) and some decent bulbs. You'll save yourself in the long run.

No auto adjust on headlights or fogs both have adjusters

That's usually why aftermarket HID's don't produce the extra lighting you should get with them. They will produce the look, but if the housing is designed for halogen, then that's about what you will get. The inside(reflectors and design of the internals) of a halogen housing is designed for that type of bulb, and the housing of a HID lamp is designed for that type of bulb. The reason is, they give off light in different ways.

According to the Kia website, the factory HID's are self leveling.

"High-Intensity Discharge (HID) Headlights are self-leveling and provide bright, crisp lighting of the road ahead."

Now the lights in my 06' Benz E55 were bad-ass(completely active). They would turn into a corner when you turned the steering wheel and move up and down as you were going over bumps or up and down a hill. But that was like a $4k package by its self lol

I looked at another Forte with factory HIDs and it was still using the same projector just had a different adapter for the bulb which is changeable with 3 screws.

It definitely could be, as I've never compared them side by side. But it could be as little of a difference as the size and amount of reflectors in the housing(shiny part that you actually see when looking into the housing) and the design and shape of the reflector(small part in front of bulb that directs the beam backwards to the housing). They are usually different because the bulbs produce light in different ways but the overall look of the whole thing usually looks the same. If they are projectors, you pretty much have to tear things apart to see the difference.

I took mine off the car and pulled the 3 screws out of the bracket and it would allow you to remove the bulb mounting bracket and the reflector up to the projector lens. They probably won't let me pull the one on the lot with HIDs apart that far to compare with mine lol.

Probably not worth the time anyways. As long as the aftermarket HID's are working and keeping you happy, that's all that matters. Sometimes I just like to share some of the pointless knowledge and experience that's been crammed into my melon over the years. I think it makes me feel younger or something lol.
Wait, so the hid and non hid uses the same projector. Kia says the hid option has self adjusting lights. So.... If they are the same then they all do that? Or did I miss something?
Talking about the projector itself from the outside looked the same but seemed to have a different bracket for the HID bulb mounting but couldn't say positively since all I could do was look (i could only pop the dust cap off and look inside). The leveling part seemed to be attached to the exterior of the housing making use of the adjusters. What controls it I have no idea but most likely isn't something added easily. You can buy the HID headlamp assembly for $809.87 per side if you have some spare change lol.
I can try to take pictures of my headlight
