I just bought my 2016 Forte5 SX 6 speed yesterday. Today I went to lock the doors with the stock fob and the car started. No idea how this happened. I got in shut off the car and tried to redo it but it wouldn’t do it again. What could be the problem.

When you say 6 speed - is it MT?
Check under the hood for any extra wiring.
I wonder if your car does not have a aftermarket module for remote start.
I do not recall now, but I think SX could also get the OEM remote start module.

Anyway, try that - press lock and right then press trunk release. Just press, no hold.

If yours is MT - I am not sure how it would work for remote start, unless you parked in in N and used handbrake, and the system allows for it...

Nobody I know of offers factory remote start for manual transmission , it’s too dangerous, in late model cars the clutch must be depressed before the engine will turn over.

But I have heard of car engines starting during door locking/unlocking, warranty time.

Sorta sounds like my aftermarket remote start I recently had installed. When I first called, the guy asked was I good with the reach on the factory fob. My car sits right outside my window at work and I can lock and unlock it from my kitchen, when I'm in the house. He said he had a system where you keep the factory fobs, so I went with that. You just hit the unlock button 3 times to start the car.

I've got an aftermarket remote start. It will start w 3 clicks of the lock button. I mainly use an app on my phone for remote starting. IMG_0589.jpg

Apparently the previous owner, unknowingly to the dealer I bought the car from, wired a remote start in to his manual trans car without any safety precautions on and by cutting and splicing wires in the hardness that usually aren’t done. Dealer took responsibility for it and took the car back and found me another one.

Holy crap.
It's good that the car did not drive away!!

I know there are remote starts for MT. But it takes wiring into the shifter to verify the gear selection.

Anyway, you should be proud of the dealer for taking care of it.
What did they find for you? Another SX?
