Bumper removal

So I thought I would do a write up of how to remove the bumper on our cars. This may not be the best write up but I will give it a shot!

First you need to jack up the car and put it on stands or ramps. I have ramps that are 2 piece so the actual ramp can come off out of the way. I also took a picture of the jack point I use.

Ok once you get the car up then there is 4 bolts right across the top where the hood release is. Mine are switched to allen key bolts.

Then time to go under the car. You will see a cover that needs the front 2 plastic phillips head screws to come off. Mine was already off but you can see in the picture that there is 2 points where it connects to the bumper. There is also 4 of the plastic phillips head screws that need to be undone that you can see in the 2nd picture.

Now there is a phillips head screw in the fender well that needs to come off also. You can use a phillips head or a 10mm socket.

So here is where some might cringe a little because you have to pull on the bumper right by the front wheels where you took the phillips head screw out. You need to pull the fender liner out a little so you can get your hand in to be able to pull on it. Don't just grab it like the hulk though. All you need is a easy pull. There is also a spot right under the headlight that needs to be pulled on a tad to.

Ok once you pull on both sides you are ready to pull the bumper totally off. Just watch out for the fog light plugs so you don't rip them off. I lay towels down on the floor to set the bumper on out of the way. To install it do the reverse of taking it off!

Hope this helps anyone that is wanting to pull their bumper off for any reason like cleaning the intercooler or pulling your air filter from your CAI.

Thank you for this imfo. I have been worried about pulling that bumper . I'm working with a fellow member on a custom fmic. I have pulled other bumpers and ended up with busted mounting tabs or clips. I have only pulled bumpers on used cars, so the damage most likely was already done. It's nice to see the procedure first, because it's a new car. Great job! It helps get over the fear of pulling that bumper .

Good write up. I've found myself that when pulling on the bumper, you have to lift up and pull by the head light for it to properly come out. I'm sure once it is removed a few times, it will get easier. I think the first time, it took me like 45 min cause I was making sure I don't break anything. Now it's like less than 10 mins.

That is very helpful, did not know there was a manual for our cars. Looks like looks of other good info in there.

Man thanks for this ! I just installed my BOV and I tried just moving the top but dropped my tool into the intercooler cowl lol . So I had to pull the whole thing off. I ran to the phone and used your write up as a reference . :) made it supe easy . Now can't wait for a crash bar to put a large intercooler on her !

Those are all tabs?? Noyhing to pry on... but can you also break those tabs right??? Might do this for fun, and check my intake set-up and BOV install
Tabs on the sides that you pull?
If my girl gets my GoPro for my birthday I'll do a FMIC install vid ;) by the time my bday hit 6th should have my intercooler setup just about ready , at least I hope lol .

Yes meaning it's all held in by clips? ? As I can tell in the picture
4 screws on top . One in each fender well . On the bottom all the plastic retainer screws that line the bottom of the bumper cover that connects to the plastic under parts . Afte all the screws are out . Pull in the cover from under the head light and fender area . It's snapped in . So it pops out . Go to the other side and repeat . Make sure not to drop the cover . Also you wil need to disconect the fog light wires .

Damn simple, lol I just wanted to know how the fender were put toget her so I would know .. I thought they were held by clips and didn't want to break them
They won't break . But if you look at the how to of the first gen videos you can put body tape on the upper and lower panel of the bumper cover and fender . Remove the headlights too and you will see the clips . But trust me they just come right off lol . Quick pull and push back like a quick connect play set ha ha !
Just had everything entered in a reply and when I went to post it had timed me out and everything is gone.

I will be going to my friends house which he has a garage and I will be doing that, taking out the headlights and bumper so I can get my BOV in.. lol
No need to even take out the headlight. Just take the cold pipe off and just the upper I.C brakes off and push it forward and you will have enough room to get to the back bolt. Just make sure you don't try to tighten the bolts to tight because they will strip
