I do a lot of cycling and sometimes I need to drive to wherever I plan to ride.

On my sportage that I traded in for my Forte5, I had a receiver hitch and a bike rack that mounts to the hitch.
I have contemplated the idea of installing a hitch so my old rack doesn't go to waste but I don't think a hitch would look that great/work well on such a low vehicle.

That said, I did get a Solo bike rack from Saris (Solo 1-Bike Transport Rack - Saris) but the second time using it with my mountain bike, it put a few tiny dings on my rear hatch... :(
I am not a fan of trunk mount racks on hatchbacks because it blocks the rear wiper and I was also worried about it causing damage to my car due to the angle the rack goes on a hatchback (see example picture)

What's anyone's thoughts on a roof rack mounting system? Or maybe another idea? I got the solo rack so I can store it in my trunk and pull it out when I need it.

I'm installing a hitch on my Koup this weekend to pull my Streetglide to Bikeweek in Daytona Beach.

I'd love to see how it looks once it's installed. I'm primarily worried about ground clearance with my bike rack installed

I've got some SportRack thing from Canadian Tire. got it many years ago. Model number is SR3161 I think.
I have test mounted it on my 5, without a bike on it though, and it seemed to fit without issue. It mounted on the tailgate itself and not on the window glass, am I am glad about that ,as I really don't like securing things against glass. Seemed to be pretty stable, did not cause fouling on the rear wiper either.

The hitch doesn't look too out of place on the car but I think it might be too low to use with my hitch bike rack and still be able to get in and out of my driveway. Could you possibly give me a measurement from the ground to the hitch?

I may look into that rack. I tried mounting mine below the glass and at that angle, the tires of my bike ended up really close to the ground

Holy salt, Batman! Wash that poor thing. :) (The total lack of salt on the road is just about the only thing I really like about Florida...)
That's about how my car would look but luckily the silver paint job makes the salt mess a little less noticable

have you considered a roof mount instead? these are the best imo but maybe i don't know what i'm talking about since i don't own one yet.
also, pretty positive a road bike would fit inside the car with a front wheel off. that's how i'll be transporting for now.

I looked into a roof mount bike rack for my Koup and I was told by the roofrack shop that it's not possible - there's no mounting point and the frameless windows pose a problem if you are looking to mount via a 'side hook' type approach. I haven't done anything about it for now, but I will probably go with a Seasucker suction mount system - the beauty of that being that it simply goes on when you need it, and off when you don't. Also, I have a mate in the cycle industry and he tells me that they are actually pretty good - of course, they're not as good as a permanent roofrack, but if that's not possible (as would seem to be the case) then they are a solid second choice.

ahhh duh. i didn't think about you having a koup and the frameless window. i have the hatch so we have a frame. i'll have to take a look at a suction mount. that sounds pretty cool too.

edit: lol on the seasucker site there's a dude on his bike with it mounted! wow that's pretty insane that it holds that well. i'm sold! thanks for the counter suggestion :D

Glad to help :). If you do end up getting one, would you mind posting again after you've used it for a while and let us know what you think - I'd be keen to hear some 'real world' stories.

Cheers,

Johno.
