Hello Yall. My name is Robert, I'm new to the forum. I have been having a ongoing issue with my vehicle. My 15 Kia Forte 5 has been giving me a hard time lately. I bought this vehicle a week ago with 6500 miles on it. Great running car. Recently, I have been having a problem with acceleration. I merge onto a highway and man it really lags. I hear the turbo ( its very loud) but it seems that its not going anywhere. I have no mods done yet as I haven't had it that long. I know stock turbo and plumbing in inexpensive cars aren't the best quality of parts, but any suggestions on how to solve this turbo lagging so bad? Or any possible mods that would fix this problem? The vehicle didn't do this when I first bought it.

First off welcome!

I would go through all the stock clamps and make sure they are all tight so you don't have any boost leaks. If you have none I would check spark plug gap and put them to .028. Also clean your throttle body on it. You may want to check your BPV thats on top of the stock intercooler and take it off and check the diaphragm for any tears in it. While at that make sure all the vacuum hoses are tight and not falling off anywhere

When I drove the car the first few days (and test drive) I was very impressed with it as far as pickup and power. Then it just seemed to go away. This is my first Turbo car, always has NA v8's. So this is a big transition. lol.

Sorry to hear you are having issues Robert. Have a look in the "Turbo Performance" section there is a thread that I started called "No Turbo Activation?". Does what I describe in that thread sound like you? Possibly not because you say that you hear the turbo quite loud. Nonetheless, it might be helpful information for you, in particular the drastic 'end-game' that I encountered of my engine blowing up.

Since it only has 6500 miles on it first thing to do is take it back to the Kia dealer and explain what it is doing or what it feels like. If it is completely stock and you can hear the turbo spooling then it may have blown a hose loose and is losing all the boost (in stock trim the turbo is almost totally silent). The hot pipe runs right under the center of the car and wouldn't be to hard to cause damage to it by hitting debris in the road.

Welcome to the forum. Everybody on here is so damn knowledgeable and ready to help you in an instant. I had a very similar issue a few weeks ago. After checking all of my hoses and clamps, I noticed one of my hose clamps on my 6th resonator delete pipe had loosened to the point of it practically falling off. Once i re-tighten, the beast was alive again. I would def check all your hoses and clamps like @forte5 said. If everything is on tight and you can't seem to find the problem, just take it back to the dealership. That is what warranties are for my friend. Now get your issue fixed and immediatley speak to @6thelementengineering and buy some goodies! Once again welcome!

Its manual transmission 6th Element. It does it basically 1-6 .When I first bought the car it seemed 2-5 were very fast. Now those gears feel very sluggish. I've pulled up next to a 97 Honda with a huge can on the exhaust and it beat me. Something isn't right. Took car to dealership yesterday, KIA said that the Turbo checked out and it was fine. When they check it are they checking the actual turbo or checking pressure at different segments.

Don't feel left out lol they still don't know why mine is faster at 30% throttle than WOT (or anything above 30%). I can pull 188% load at 30% and only 90% load at WOT. So I'll just keep taking it back till they get it fixed.

I noticed that....I have never had a car do that before! lol. I'm taking It back tomorrow. KIA said there was nothing wrong with it. Their definitely is. I'm fixing to check it myself, just don't know where to start as I have never owned a turbo car nor worked on one.

If you have an acrid device, get a cheap elm327 device from Amazon. Torque is basically free, but get the paid version and kia extension. All in should be 20 bucks. Or use google rewards to earn money to pay for the apps.

If iPhone you need a WiFi variant. I don't have any istuff for personal use so can't help much there.

Then start looking at boost, fuel, pedal position, throttle position etc. If its not making power it can only be a lack of fuel or air.
Mine is strange, everything logs fine (every 1/10th) but after I get to 30% throttle logging freezes for 5-6 seconds at a time or more. At first I thought it was the TPS or the sensor in the TB so I checked the sweep with a analog meter and replaced the TB back to stock. My next guess would be fuel but Kia already went through all that. Only thing I can't do is reflash the ECU and this is the second ECU. First one wasn't limiting rpms and bad things happened lol

My TPS sensor did go out, and I'm guessing in made everything revert to limp mode? 30% throttle seems like it is indeed faster then the 100% WO but the only fix for that was a reflash of the ECU? And does that app able to adjust boost levels and fuel air ratios?

If your asking about the torque app then no it can't adjust boost or afrs. It only monitors the sensors and does data logging and can show you any codes that pop up and erases them. To adjust boost you need to get a tune.
