Drive wheel (right front) bangs during wheel spin.

During our recent wet weather, spinning the fronts got a bit too easy, the problem is it makes a loud banging noise even with TC turned off, not going hard at it just using a bit to much power, it feels like the wheel is hopping.

Tyres are original 4 1/2 yo and due for replacement.

all the other cars I have had spin clean when I'm on the gas too hard.

Is this normal for these cars, most of my older cars are rear drive.

Sadly, yes. A stiffer motor mount will help (you can find inserts on Amazon for $30 or get a whole mount replacement from sxth). You can also yank the wheel to one side and it will reduce hop. But it will mostly always be there.

fitted new Tyers yesterday so we will see what happens, hopefully it won't spin so easy.
GPS speed app still has speedo off by about 5%, 80km/h indicated 75 by gps.

    MT or AT?

In MT I had a lot of wheel hop, but in AT - never. It would spin smoothly... burn the rubber.

MT, if it was auto I would not have brought it, I already have an auto Calais, while it's a good distance cruiser it's not a fun car to drive.

That's exactly what I thought before, too. All my cars were MT. Even the 2015 SX, but when I test drove 2016 AT I was quite impressed. The paddle shifters were so quick, tranny was very eager and fast to respond. Upshifts without boost drops, even at low RPM. And that 1st-2nd shift and very strong pull in 2nd with chirping wheels. Since I got a great deal, I went for it.

I missed MT only on highway, like in 5th or 6th gear WOT. MT had more power under WOT, while AT was much better in low speed (RPM speed) and quick shifts.

I enjoyed low end torque, but especially in cold winter days, the turbo would take long time to spool and boost was limited.
As a result, each upshift in MT would result in low power in the next gear. I did not want to rev up cold engine...
AT was much faster in those cases.

And even, like this one - gentle start in 1st and WOT fraction of a second before upshift to 2nd. It would go like crazy. Something I could not do in MT.

Not that I want to convince you to AT. I am just saying FI engines take advantage of a good AT. Forte 6-AT was not the best, but was far better than many.
My only wish was to have the torque converter in lockup more often and for longer.

Going back to your wheel hop.
Older tires had the problem of poor grip and resulted in the hop. Fresh set solved the problem.
Also, replacing the rubbers on the dog bone (engine mount) helps.

If you were US based, I'd offer you mine... I got both red and green to get rid off.
