    New Addition to the family!

With Hyundai/Kia putting the 1.6T in anything with wheels, we have decided that it is finally time to update, and go new and improved.

We have been searching the local dealerships for what we want, originally we wanted to go with the 2017 Kia Soul with the 1.6T and DCT, we found that one of our local dealerships had a 2017 Hyundai Elantra Sport 1.6T DCT, we went and took a look at the car, read extensive reviews, and we were sold. 18 miles on the clock when we pulled into the shop this morning. The beauty behind this, is one, it gives us hands on with the DCT for any amount of time that we please. This is much needed as we are all aware of the issues that are plaguing the DCT owners, and we want to take steps toward a solution that will help everyone out, this also is the exact same ECU as the Soul 1.6T so this is a 2 birds 1 stone scenario.

First impressions of the car, it is beautiful, stock suspension feels tight, but not uncomfortable, stock exhaust note is actually pretty great, I am impressed. The car is quiet, smooth, and has any creature comfort you would want! As for performance, I have yet to get a chance to beat on the car, considering it has 18 miles on it, we will be waiting, but will definitely get a dyno run in for you guys! It is a great looking car, and we are looking forward to seeing what we can do with it. It will definitely be fun.

I will keep everyone updated, as I am sure some of you are quite curious, But for now, enjoy some pictures!

We also fitted it with its new wheels, unfortunately the tires will not be going on there. We will be going to a summer performance tire. Too bad, because the slicks really help with the look.... HAHA

We will be putting the sport in the Elantra Sport!

    Nice.
Any feelings on DCT so far?
I am glad someone knowledgeable got hands on this car.

I am waiting impatiently to jump into the 2018 Elantra GT... Not that I will buy it, although I liked the hatchback design.

As of right now, I haven't had a bunch of seat time in the car yet, but it seems to be quite responsive. I am a fan of the design of the DCT, I always have been, I just feel that the execution of it was soiled by Hyundai. A huge thing we will be doing is working on the DCT possibly through tuning, but definitely through upgrades, as there has been a ton of issues with the DCT in other platforms. Hopefully we can get it all sorted and make it enjoyable, long lasting, and able to hold a ridiculous amount of power!

I will be taking the car and putting it through its paces soon, so I will try to write an initial review. The car is still bone stock, we haven't done any tuning, nor have we added any parts aside from an intake and popped the exhaust off on the dyno to see some restrictions. The car being bone stock will give me a good base line to go off of as we make our journey to building upgrades. It does however come with a FMIC which is a very nice addition.

As far as adding parts, from the testing we did with our intake, and removing the exhaust, very very minimal gains from modifications untuned. Which isn't necessarily a surprise, however it is very interesting. The new ECU's and factory tunes are becoming smarter. The power is there to be had, but the ECU is limiting it, it sees slight changes, and does its best to counteract these changes. We didn't hit any limiters, aside from the speed limiter in 5th gear, we seen anywhere from 5-15whp gains. Which isn't horrible, but with tuning we could easily pull 30whp with the intake and lack of restriction in the exhaust. Tuning will be the game changer on these cars. Id expect a FBO car to only gain 20ish wheel horsepower on the stock tune. Kind of fascinating.

So am I, Tyson. Unfortunately DCT is not PDK or at least DSG.
