    I am sorry, my mistake.
    You are correct.
The only shift up the scale is with age... I got the mixed somehow.

    Is the factory D8S?
I read somewhere that you can convert D8S into D3S or something... I think it was ST forum (or HIDplanet) they played with OEM HID system to get 35 W setup.

Yes factory is d8s. It looks like the ballasts from the Tesla d3s set up are a direct bolt in (35w) and then you just need to cut out a notch on the d3s bulb to make it fit. Also the wire between the two is different as well I believe. I am still waiting for a decent price on eBay to come up for the whole thing. Then once the proof of concept works get some morimoto d3s bulbs since those actually have some color options.

Wife's optima has ds1 set ups I think.

Since yours is OEM setup, how does the autoleveling work?
I am planning on doing retro for bi-xenon in my Forte, but I would like to have the ability to change level of headlights from inside.
Where is the motor? How does the thing work? I cannot find anything on the web about it.

The sensor is in the roof by the antenna I believe. I have not taken then out yet though to look at the motor. let me see if I can take a pic tonight as well as the wife's optima.

Here is a pic of the passenger side. I think that extra gearing stuff is the linkage for the leveling motor

    Thanks man.
It looks... exactly as mine. And exactly same as my 2015 one.
    Both had the same gearing.

It does not seem the motor would be hidden in this small space, could it?
If so, it means all of them have the motor? Does not sound right. I bet the motor must be hidden elsewhere.

Since we are here - do you see the low beams to adjust somehow when you turn them on? Like up/down? If so, I was hoping you could observe from the engine bay if it actually moves through this gearing.
the rod with the gearing is for up/down adjustment. You insert a long Philips screw driver into the slot and rotate. But the whole assembly goes up/down, not the low beam only.
Hence, I am thinking if the projector by itself does not have any separate motor.

    Confusing a bit...
Kia Tech Info does not talk about it much, except the sensor and motorized headlight.

I'll look more into it when I get around to upgrading the HIDs. I will be taking the entire light ably of and hopefully will get a better look then.

In regard to seeing the leveling motor in action on start up I already forget. I have not even seen it on my wife's car. I think it actually does it right when they flash on though.
